This website contains information about the Federation, its Board, its activities, and how to become an individual or group member. The information below comes from a brochure published by the Federation.

The UU Women’s Federation Is:

 A  continental membership organization working to preserve and celebrate the unique experience of UU women.

 A n independent non-profit corporation and one of only three associate member organizations of the Unitarian Universalist Association with delegate status at General Assembly.

 I nheritor of a proud tradition, formed in 1963 through consolidation of the Association of Universalist Women (founded in 1869) and the Alliance of Unitarian Women (1890).

 F inanced through member dues, interest from endowment, and donations.
 


 S ince its formation, UUWF has carried on a variety of programs and activities aimed at serving the needs and furthering the concerts of UU women. These have included:

Publications

1970s: Voices of the New Feminism, sponsored by UUWF and published by special arrangement with Beacon Press; Self Discovery: Group Explorations in Life Crises (with the UUA)
1980s: the Transforming Thought series, Position Papers on Feminist Theology and Feminist Theology in the Context of UU Women
1990s: Finding Our Way: Responding to Clergy Sexual Misconduct; Rise Up and Call Her Name: A Woman-honoring Journey into Global Earth-based Spiritualities

Clara Barton Sisterhood and
Susan B. Anthony Roll of Recognition

A means for women’s groups, societies and district organizations to honor women in their local religious communities

Denomination Activities

UUWF was a co-founder of UUs Acting to Stop Violence Against Women and a convenor of the Task Force on Clergy Misconduct and Sexual Abuse; it also played a critical role in the revision of the UUA’s Principals and Purposes and in the adoption of the 1992 GA resolution on anti-racism and cultural diversity.

Feminist Theology Awards

A grants program for accessible projects in UU feminist theology

Ministry to Women Award

Given at GA since 1974 to an individual or organization who has ministered to women in an outstanding manner
