COPIES JUST ARRIVED!!

This is an inspiring and immensely readable biography of the first ordained woman minister in the United States and the first to practice her profession for nearly a quarter of a century. Dividing her efforts between ministerial and suffrage work, Brown (1835-1926) was active in suffrage campaigns in Kansas and Wisconsin, helped to establish the New England Woman Suffrage Association and the Federal Suffrage Association, and was a vocal supporter of Alice Paul's Congressional Union. Although academic historians will find little of value in this non-scholarly account, general readers may be intrigued by tales of the petty jealousies and political rivalries that beset the suffrage movement. - Marie Marmo Mullaney, Caldwell Coll., N.J.
